The most obvious area of focus for questions of a podcast interview guest is their own career, their own experiences, their own company. I noticed a subtle tweak of this model in the interviews in the branded podcast from Reforge.
Unsolicited Feedback
The show brings on guests who are experienced executives at tech startups. And the hosts Brian Balfour and Fareed Mosavat ask them not only to talk about the direct work they’ve led, but also to give their own perspective on recent news and milestones of other tech companies in the hosts wider space. It requires trust and a strong relationship with the guest to be on mic talking candidly about other companies in the industry. And in doing so, they get really insightful reactions. I’m keeping this idea in mind for my own future interviews and to broaden out beyond just asking guests about what their company is doing.
Additionally, if you’re looking for an example of a show that has thorough and thoughtful show notes and corresponding clips, Unsolicited Feedback is an excellent example!
