I like seeing non-profits and other organizations getting into branded podcasting, not just for-profit companies. So it lined up nicely to see Purdue University getting a Signal Awards bronze in Science & Education for their show:
This Is Purdue
They have a great model for a college podcast, featuring stories of successful alumni and impressive professors. And it’s a great fit that they have a host Kate Young who is an alum herself from their school of communication. I like the mix where you can hear about groundbreaking research one week, from a successful business leader the next, and then the school’s football coach after that.
The other thing that stands out is that Purdue is putting a ton of resources into producing and promoting the show, and it shows. Sound quality is great as they have guests come into their studio or they make sure the guest has a high quality setup. They have a great website with individual pages for each episode with a recap, embedded player, and transcript. And they produce four or five different YouTube assets from the full episode, a preview, and short clips.
Accordingly, here’s a shoutout to the members of the production team that I saw credited in multiple episodes (I probably didn’t even catch everyone), as that shows how big of a team effort it is to make the show (apologies for misspellings taken from the transcript): Ted Schellenberger, John Garcia, Thad Boone, Zach Mogenson, Allie Cheney, Teresa Walker, Carly Eastman, MS, Delaney Young, Ashlee Shroyer, Maria Welch, Caitlin Freeville, Emily Jesalutis, Megan Hoskins, Kiersten Bowman, Sophie Ritz, Joel Robert Romero-Meredith
