I’m all for podcasts monetizing through a range of methods, which can include brand sponsorship, but also running a membership on Patreon (where I used to work).
The Sweeper Podcast
This show popped onto my radar and I saw that it had an association with FIFA. It falls more on the sponsorship spectrum, as the show built up an organic audience covering the wide world of football (soccer) leagues across the world. They in fact don’t bother with much discussion of what’s happening in the top tier leagues; they’re much more interested in things like a Montenegro team’s mass collapse to avoid a lopsided loss, and comparing trivia about lower tier teams that didn’t allow a single goal for a season but still missed out on winning their league.
It’s fun and a refreshing change from so many podcasts focused on a small set of leagues, teams, and players. It’s cool that FIFA sponsors the show, as it does a great job emphasizing the innumerable places that football is being played and loved and analyzed around the world.
