I’m really thankful for the global scope of the podcasting industry newsletter Podnews, as I increasingly learn about branded company podcasts from their blurbs about new and recommended shows. Here’s a show that otherwise wouldn’t be on my radar, from Orange Sky Australia:
The F Word
It’s worth noting that there are a LOT of podcasts with this same name. Generally I would advise against choosing a branded podcast name that has many identically named show already in the podcast directories. Orange Sky is going for something cheeky, if nothing else - the F in question here is “friendship”.
I listened to the pilot episode of the show, and it’s really heartwarming. Orange Sky provides laundry and shower services for homeless / unhoused people in Australia. They take the first episode to tell the story of the first person to receive their services, who at of the time of recording the episode, they had not been inactive contact with. It’s a compelling concept to follow along as the organization works to get in touch with the recipient to internally was an ongoing motivation for their work, then conscientiously make sure it would be a positive experience to talk to him again on mic, and finally to share those updates in the episode. I won’t give away more about how the interaction goes, as the show does such a good job of recording the saga in the episode.
