It’s powerful when a brand can take one of their core principles and expand that out into an ongoing podcast concept. So I found Ulta Beauty’s company podcast to be a great extension of their focus on the beauty in all people.
The Beauty Of…
I appreciate the running episode title theme of each one being “The Beauty Of…” something, like sleep, or motherhood, or the humor episode with Margaret Cho that I listened to. It’s a good setup for host and makeup artist + hairstylist David Lopez to talk to a wide range of guests about what beauty means to them.
And Ulta and their advertising partner McCann certainly were tested in their commitment to their vision for the show when their second episode featuring Dylan Mulvaney sparked some predictable wider commentary. I applaud Ulta for supporting their host and guest and reinforcing the conversations they create space for on the podcast. I’ll end with quoting their message from after the episode released in Fall 2022.
"The premise of ‘The Beauty Of …’ is to feature conversations that widen the lens surrounding traditional beauty standards. We believe beauty is for everyone. And while we recognize some conversations we host will challenge perspectives and opinions, we believe constructive dialogue is one important way to move beauty forward. The intersectionality of gender identity is nuanced, something David and Dylan acknowledge themselves within the episode. Regardless of how someone identifies, they deserve our respect.”
