Since I write about branded company podcasts, I haven’t had to give any NSFW content warnings for my reviews. I follow where I find examples of well-made branded podcasts and useful lessons learned. In this case it just so happens to bring me to the world of porn with:
The Pornhub Podcast with Asa Akira
The show has been around for 80 episodes since 2018 and earlier seasons shared the backstories of porn performers and people involved in production. Those topics have less applicability to non-adult brands. But the new season started in November has a theme “Terms of Service” that focuses on the regulatory environment around the website and adult content.
It’s such a brilliant pivot and focus. Yes there is discussion about porn that you shouldn’t have playing in the company of younger listeners. But it shows how companies dealing in edgier or more niche content can talk about their brand in a new way. The issues around regulation, social media, treatment of women, and stigmas about sex are much broader and reframe the brand as a progressive voice on the topics.
Whether you check out the show (or the site), it’s a great example of taking a proactive, policy-first approach to a company podcast!
