I live in the SF Bay Area, and I’ve always loved exploring the city on transit, so I was excited to find out there is a podcast from the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency:
Taken with Transportation
Comparing for-profit branded company podcasts and shows from non-profits and government organizations, it’s probably the non-commercial entities that can benefit the most from telling a story to their audience in podcast form. I heard about the show from one of the agency’s board members Lydia So. She’s actually the guest on the episode I listened to where host Melissa Culross interviews guests about the cable cars decorated in honor of cultural heritage months. It’s really well done to highlight these programs with on-location audio riding the cable cars.
Lydia and I talked about how government often needs an extra nudge to get the word about their programs to constituents. The stereotype is that government agencies don’t do a good job engaging on social media. But at least when it comes to SFMTA, I’m really proud that they’re embracing podcasts as a great way to reach and engage with riders!
