Podcasts are a great way to bring a company’s work to a different and especially younger demographic, so I really like what The Santa Fe Opera is doing with their branded company podcast:
Key Change
The show falls under the banner of Opera for All Voices, which The Santa Fe Opera helped spearhead, but also has support from other major operas across the U.S. It’s a great cause to “produce new operative works for audiences of all ages” and tell “stories of our time”.
Using a podcast to document and share the creation of a major project, whether artistic of more commercial, is a great use of the medium. Host Andrea Fellows Fineberg uses the episodes to talk to the many, many people involved in putting together a new opera, and focusing on the community impact of the work. I have family connections to careers in opera, so I have an extra appreciation for how difficult and worthwhile it is to bring the art form to new audiences.
