One of the most important milestones for a branded company podcast is making it from the conclusion of an initial, short season to the launch of its second season. So many well made podcasts get through their first run, don’t see conclusive enough results, and the funding or commitment fades. Thankfully, there’s a great example of making it through that critical checkpoint from Boston Children’s.
Breakthrough
Just returned for season two in late February, produced by New York Times Advertising / T Brand Studio, and hosted by Zakiya Whatley. They actually were nominated for a 2023 Webby in the Health, Science, and Education category.
The show follows a great format that lands especially well given the subject matter of children affected by serious diseases, and the work that goes into helping them recover. They start with a story from the patient / consumer / customer perspective, bringing the listener into her life and the pain she’s enduring. As we get to a conclusion of the patient’s story, it shifts to meeting the people on the medical / company side, and the cutting edge research and therapies that addresses the challenges laid out from the first protagonist.
Very effective storytelling model, and welcome back and congrats on releasing season 2!
