My mom worked at the library at my elementary school, and I’ve continued to be a regular at the public library for my own reading and more importantly for encouraging my kids’ reading. So I thoroughly enjoyed the great branded company podcast from the Brooklyn Public Library:
Borrowed
They are up to almost 100 episodes now, currently hosted by Virginia Marshall and Adwoa Adusei. A great place to start is their recent rebroadcast of an episode titled “Secret Lives of Librarians”. The stories in the episode are a lot of fun, getting to hear about some of the passions and hobbies that help humanize the employees and the library as an organization.
The show also has some great elements with, of course, book recommendations for listeners, as well as a clear call to action about how people can make a difference in supporting the library. At a time when books have gotten overly politicized, it’s so refreshing and important to have content like Borrowed to anchor us in the universal value of strong community institutions like the public library.
