Big moments and news events can be a great sources of themes for a branded company podcast. But what do you do when the initial situation has passed and you still have momentum with the show? Payments company Adyen was faced with that situation on their podcast:
Beyond Retail
The show was started in June 2021 as “Retail Reawakened”, with an unsurprising focus given the date of how retail businesses were adapting to and recovering from COVID. After a limited series of five episodes, they rebranded with the “Beyond Retail” name for a second season, and continued into a third year and season last fall.
I’m impressed that host Colin Neil and production partner Lower Street have continued the throughline of how retail businesses are evolving, not just in response to the pandemic, but to other technological and societal changes as well.
Another useful takeaway is their interview format, where they usually bring in two external guests who are small business operators or providers of services to the industry, combined with one internal guest from Adyen to demonstrate their direct expertise. It’s a nice mix to keep the overall focus on the stories of businesses, while reinforcing the company’s services and credentials in the space.
